White Girl Steppers Now Split 1st Place Prize with Black Girl Steppers

Remember that story we posted last week about a white sorority winning 1st place in the annual Sprite Step Competition. Click here to read: White Sorority Wins Sprite Step Competition

Well Coca-Cola who sponsored the event could not handle all that controversy so they went back, looked over the scores and conveniently found a "discrepancy."

ATLANTA (AP) -- After days of controversy over a white group's win in a step competition, sponsor Coca-Cola said Thursday the second-place team will share top honors.

Coca-Cola said in a statement that a review of the scoring from Saturday's national contest revealed a "scoring discrepancy" that it declined to explain. This is the first year of the Sprite Step Off, but step contests are typically dominated by black sororities and fraternities.

Step is a historically black art form of rhythmic stepping and clapping. A YouTube video of the winning performance by a group of Zeta Tau Alphas from the University of Arkansas generated hundreds of comments, some of them inflammatory.

Coca-Cola said Thursday the Alpha Kappa Alpha team from Indiana University, whose members are black, would share first place and would also receive the same $100,000 in scholarships that the Zeta Tau Alphas won.

"Because the scoring discrepancy cannot be resolved and due to the extremely narrow margin between the first and second place winning sororities," the company decided to declare co-winners, the company statement says.

The national offices of both sororities said they were proud of their members and declined to comment on the Internet controversy.

The Sprite Step Off was created to award scholarships, Coca-Cola said. The tournament began in September with a series of regional qualifying rounds around the country. Six sororities competed in the national final in Atlanta Saturday. Six fraternities also competed among themselves. source from wusa9.com

Thumbs up or down for how this was handled?

White Sorority Wins Sprite Step Competition

Urban Chameleon news

A huge controversy is brewing in the YouTube comment section about whether or not a group of white girls deserved to win the annual Sprite Step-Off . After watching the video below, I honestly believe, if these girls were Black we wouldn't have been impressed. Having seen a good amount of step shows, their moves aren't original, and the only unique part of this presentation is that the girls are white. Not something we normally see. The question then becomes: Is them being white what earned them the prize? Maybe. Can't say for sure as we did not see the other competitors in this show, but we can say that great entertainment is giving the audience something they haven't experienced before and these white girls sho 'nough did!

On a different note, I find it interesting that Black people, upon entering a predominantly white field, have to be extra-ordinary, stellar, unimaginable, uncommon, inconceivable, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Barrack Obama. Using this standard of remarkable in reverse, the question becomes: Were these girls all dat?

The White Girl Remixes of Black Rapper's Songs...Is this a new trend?

Urban Chameleon moment

In watching an episode of last week's Gossip Girl there was a song that sounded very familiar but wasn’t familiar

And I thought, “Hmmmm this is peculiar…”

I began to sing along

Still thinking, “Damn, what’s the name of this song?”

The next verse continued

And I finally saw the light

“Stacks on deck, Patron on ice, and we can pop bottles…”

Wait a minute this is a white girl’s rendition of T.I.’s song, What Ever You like

Now I didn’t think too much of it

I dug the groove and thought how it underscored the scene, perfected it

Until making dinner plans with a few girlfriends of mine

And one suggests Permanent brunch, it’s breakfast all the time

I went online, checked out the menu ‘cause bad food is my biggest fear

And wait what’s this music on this website here? Is this Nelly, It’s Getting’ Hot In Here?”

But it wasn’t Nelly and again the vibe wasn’t wrong

Is this another white girl’s remix of a Black rapper’s song?

I gotta say I’m really not mad

Ok white girl, your rendition aint half bad

Just don’t get on no Elvis Presly sh*t and discredit the work

Making someone have to find yo’ ass to remind you and the audience that a Black rapper did it first

A White Girl Raised by a Jamaican Nanny in Brooklyn

by today's Urban Chameleon contributor

Growing up in Brooklyn and attending a predominantly all white school a lot of my white friends had Caribbean nannies, which is common of course even outside of Brooklyn but I never thought too much about the kind of impact this must have had. Well here is the outcome- a young white Urban Chameleon girl is born!

AWWWWWWWWWWWW SNAP! This little white girl kills it!
