Yesterday’s Newsweek Post

by today’s Urban Chameleon contributor

My girlfriend and I were reading yesterdays blog post Caribbean Country Side Bafoonery here at Home of the Urban Chameleon. We too were talking about that daggering story that we also read in Newsweek. I think we were more upset that we were getting put on to the latest about our culture from Newsweek!

After moving out the ‘hood, it reminded us that we actually need to visit the ‘hood more often than just getting our hair done. Spend a little time taking back in the rhythm of the streets, find out about the latest hip hop and dancehall mix tapes from Abdul on the corner, while eating a beef patty with coco bread and taking some ackee and salt fish to go. Pick up those priceless and price conscious groceries that these higher end supermarkets either don't have or charge an arm and a leg for like Bustelo!- there is no reason this coffee should be $7.00 when it’s 1.99 in the ‘hood! Hey maybe even see the weed man, go to the park and light up that dutchy and chug a 40ty for old time sake. Let me stop, I was drinking White Zinfindale even from back then with the dutchy.

As Urban Chameleons no matter where we go we owe it to our selves to always keep that one foot in the ‘hood ‘cause we should never be finding out about the alleged broken penis' of our brothas as a result of daggering in media first.

Caribbean Country Side Bafoonery

by today's Urban Chameleon contributor

It must have been a slow week for Newsweek. Don'tchu know they've written an article about Daggering, which they have described as "A type of dance popular with some of Jamaica’s poorest citizens. It’s exuberant, vulgar, and may be responsible for a string of highly painful and personal injuries occurring out of the clubs in the bedroom."

Ok who told the white folks about this one? I know the writer didn't decide to go out one day to a shanti town with some poom poom shorts and a Red Stripe looking to dagger.

We can't share everything people.

Click below for the Newsweek article where they even managed to get a quote from promoter Jah Prince
who "claims that the actual amount of extreme daggering dancers is low." Thank you Jah Prince for clarifying this for us. Thank you... Jah Rastafari

My goodness.

The Price to Stay Fly

by today’s Urban Chameleon contributor

Today’s tax deadline has already got me dreaming of what I will do with my refund check this year. As I’ve gotten smarter over this past year enlisting Dave Ramsey from Fox Business News’ advice that "Cash is king" I’m trying to make smarter financial decisions. (yes I watch Fox business or at least Ramsey’s program because all racism aside that white man has changed my life around- and as long as he “Don’t Start nuttin’ there won’t be nuttin’)

This year has me trying to decide between a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti

or a tan by way of a much needed trip to Miami

because who the hell knows when Spring plans to drop it like it’s hot for us here in NY. I mean come on it snowed last week people. Not okay.

Now a year ago I would have easily whipped out my credit card and purchased the Giuseppe’s and maybe even some Dior shades to pump through the airport in on my way to Miami. But as I’ve taken these past few months to analyze my credit card statements and the accumulated interest rate that I’m still paying out on some of those back in the day credit card purchases trying to “Fake it until I make it” that will not be happening. Part of me just wants to just save the entire check maybe even hide it from myself- given the state of the economy with thousands of people jobless and homeless some of which are camping out on lawns who am I to just be sitting over here contemplating between these two luxurious options when I could be next! But then again that’s when I’m like damn, “being in that position is going to be emotionally difficult wouldn’t I be happier on that lawn with that tan and my Giuseppe’s?”
