However, the sad fact is that in the world of commercial art few things come down to a conversation about content or substance , rather the package that substantive item comes in. How fitting here now we are talking about Sibide's weight.

As a young woman who has struggled with weight issues her whole life...let's not mince words people. Sibide is NOT overweight, she is not curvy, she is not voluptuous...she is Fat. It is true as true as Kate Moss is skinny. Identifying her as voluptuous or curvy is dishonest, it is ludacris and more over it is a disservice to women who work hard to feel good about being curvy.

Regarding her affect on the self esteem of young girls with hollywood dreams....let's raise the next generation with the confidence to be whomever they want to be regardless of where they come from or what package they come in. Sibide walked off the street and into a starring role, let's instill hard work, dedication and inventiveness in the spirit's of our young women and NOT use any measurement than themselves to inspire them and push them forward....Rachel Shapiro Coopernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-610937282836232507.post-91608922001572247382010-03-16T08:02:01.460-07:002010-03-16T08:02:01.460-07:00Give it a rest. Give her accolades for the work she's done not for being obese.amiwrightnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-610937282836232507.post-11493096379705348112010-03-15T17:25:57.061-07:002010-03-15T17:25:57.061-07:00She deserves the praise that she is getting for he...She deserves the praise that she is getting for her portrayal. While she is overweight, I am happy that other overweight girls are seeing that they can have their dreams come true and become a movie star. I know that acting like she doesn't have a problem isn't helping obesity but it's her decision in the long run of whether she plans to lose weight. And we need to continue educating people on what could happen if the rise in obesity continues.

Tiffany
http://liferequiresmorechocolate.blogspot.comTiffanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00095653554788017373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-610937282836232507.post-43232089138216754172010-03-14T18:41:19.269-07:002010-03-14T18:41:19.269-07:00Actually I think you're very wrong. We always ...Actually I think you're very wrong. We always see people use images to justify their confidence and how many times do we see people in their acceptance speeches use themselves as an example for someone else. We're a role model culture. Also if someone is talking to Gabourey about her wait it's clearly not working and drastic measures need to be taken. No on is saying Gabourey is NOT talented but let's not use her image to represent confidence because it shouldn't be cause it will kill her. And media is doing that! I'm sorry but you can't look at her and not think about the bigger problems. It's like celebrating functioning crack head and then saying we should just focus on the crack head's talent. I mean come on!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-610937282836232507.post-65945458836589782422010-03-13T20:25:01.037-08:002010-03-13T20:25:01.037-08:00I don't think there's anything wrong with ...I don't think there's anything wrong with celebrating this actress. We celebrate all kinds of actors with all kinds of problems. She did the work, she should get the praise. Case closed. She is morbidly obese. That's her battle and I doubt that there are any morbidly obese black women out there who now feel like they have been given an easy pass to go on being morbidly obese just b/c Sibide was nominated for an Oscar and seems comfortable with herself.

Do you really think no one has talked to Sibide about her weight? She is an adult. If she has a food addiction only she can save herself. We can't save her by calling her obese or by not celebrating her. If she wants help, it is there for her, even more so than it is there for other obese black woman. There are TV shows that would seriously pay this woman to lose weight. But right now she obviously doesn't want to lose weight. That is her prerogative and I doubt that anything anyone says will change her mind. This is a decision that she will have to make for herself.

Meanwhile I think we should keep on praising her for being a fine actress and a confident woman.Ernessa T.
